Blog Prompt 2: Biopower and Children of Men

By 9 pm on Tuesday September 14, please post a 600-word entry addressing the following questions and texts:

Film: Children of Men. Dir. Alfonso CuarĂ³n. Universal Pictures, 2006.

1. What examples of Foucault's notion of biopower do you see at work in Children of Men? How are race, gender, and sexuality deployed in these technologies of biopower? (thinking about the 2 poles of biopower might he helpful here)

2. How do sovereign power and biopower work together in Children of Men?

3. How is visuality deployed in both the narrative (the plot/story) of Children of Men and its material form (lighting, camera work, costumes, editing, etc.), and what are its effects?

Remember to define your terms and ground those definitions in course texts, providing citations as necessary (page numbers, etc.). Also, remember to bring in 1 outside visual text and analyze how it relates to biopower, Children of Men, or other topics covered in the readings for this unit.

Additionally, your 2 comments on each others posts are due by Wednesday September 15 at 9:00 pm.
